Platelet Lysate (PL) Therapy is a great way to use your own body’s resources to repair damaged tissues, joints, tendons, ligaments and skin.
As opposed to its less refined counterpart, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), PL allows for only isolated and concentrated growth factors to be injected into damaged tissues as opposed to other inflammatory components of blood. This results in minimal inflammation and down-time and a lesser number of treatment sessions.
Here is how the process works:
– The doctor will extract a small amount of blood from your arm.
– The blood is then placed in a centrifuge and spun at a very high rate allowing for the different components to separate from the platelets. The platelets are removed for further processing and isolation of the inherent growth factors.
– The platelets will then be frozen at specific temperatures and times to isolate the inherent growth factors.
Benefits of Platelet Lysate Therapy:
Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) – Stimulates fibroblasts to secrete collagenase to degrade the matrix during the remodeling phase. Stimulates keratinocyte and fibroblast proliferation.
Transforming Growth Factor – Promotes angiogenesis, up-regulates collagen production and inhibits degradation, promotes chemo attraction of inflammatory cells.
At SCHI PL is done in conjunction with stem cell therapy but can also be performed as a stand-alone treatment depending on the damage of the tissue requiring reparation and regeneration.
